UW-L Falls in Overtime to Carleton College

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 69-67 in overtime to Carleton College (Minn.) Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles fall to 5-3 on the season while the Knights improve to 8-1.

Carleton now leads the all-time series, 4-1, with UW-L.

The Knights led 16-9 with 13:53 remaining in the first half when the Eagles scored the next seven points to force a tie with 12:06 left. Carleton led 27-26 with 3:36 left in the first half and finished the half on a 9-2 run to lead 36-28.

Carleton led 42-35 with 15:50 left after a three-point play from Bryan Rosett. UW-L tied it at 42-42 with a 7-0 run. The contest was tied 54-54 with 3:55 remaining when Chris Fehrenbach hit a jumper and three-pointer to give the Eagles a 59-54 lead with 2:33 left. Carleton then forced overtime scoring the final five points of the half. Rosett scored on a tip-in with :46 left to make it a three-point play and Carter Biewen tied it at 59-59 with a three-point field goal with :15 left.

Fehrenbach's three-pointer as time expired was partially blocked as the game was extended to overtime.

The game was tied 64-64 after Biewen hit another three-pointer with 3:19 remaining and Rosett made it 66-64 for the Knights on a layup with 2:31 left. Fehrenbach converted his fourth three-point field goal of the game with 2:16 left for a 67-66 UW-L lead. Zach Johnson put Carleton ahead to stay with a layup with 1:51 left. The Eagles had a chance to take the lead on their final possession, but Brandon Brown was called for traveling with :02 remaining. Rosett then hit one-of-two free throws for the final margin.

Fehrenbach led UW-L with 18 points, going six-of-17 from the field, including four-of-12 from three-point range. He was two-of-two at the free throw line. Tony Mane scored 14 points for the Eagles, finishing five-of-16 from the field, including two-of-nine from three-point range. Mane also made both of his free throw attempts. Brown finished with 10 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals. Derek Wilcox finished with nine points while Billy Kegler had eight points and eight rebounds.

UW-L shot 43.5% from the field, including 27.3% (six-of-22) from three-point range. The Eagles were seven-of-nine (77.8%) at the line.

Johnson led Carleton with 21 points, including 19 in the first half. His only basket of the second half and overtime was the game-winner with 1:51 remaining in overtime. Johnson finished nine-of-18 from the field, including one-of-four from three-point range. He was two-of-three at the line while also recording seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. Rosett added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Knights while Biewen totaled 14 points and Morris Nwogwugwu 10.

Carleton shot 46.7% from the field, including 33.3% (seven-of-21) from three-point range. The Knights were six-of-eight (75.0%) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Friday, December 21 hosting Loras College (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
