Faculty, staff reminded to submit Centennial Campaign pledges before semester ends

Political Science Professor Joe Heim is a self-professed prognosticator. A newspaper feature about Heim led with the sentence, "When Joe Heim dies, his funeral will start five minutes late." So legendary is his tardiness, in fact, that it has a name: Heim Time. But as a member of UW-L's Centennial Campaign leadership team, Heim broke stride and was among the first to turn in his pledge card for the largest fundraising effort in university history.

"There are some things that are too important to delay. This is one of them," Heim said. "If the folks who are raising money for this project can demonstrate strong participation among faculty and staff, it will increase the likelihood they'll be successful in soliciting contributions from off-campus donors." When asked what he means by "strong participation," Heim is quick to answer.

"We ask our faculty, academic staff and classified personnel to give a 100 percent effort to support UW-L's mission of teaching and learning, and they consistently deliver," Heim said. He concludes that it's reasonable to seek 100 percent participation in the Centennial Campaign. Units that have already hit the 100 percent participation mark include the UW-L Alumni Association, UW-L Foundation and University Relations. Additional units are expected to follow in short order and will be announced in the Campus Connection. As you check off items on your "to-do" list before spring semester ends May 23, be sure to include your pledge to UW-L's Centennial Campaign.

Why not today?

If you did not receive a packet or would like another to share with a prospective donor, contact Natalie Olsen, UW-L Foundation program assistant, at 785.6803. Pledge forms can be printed off the Centennial Campaign Web site www.uwlax.edu/campaign and mailed to the UW-L Foundation, or make a gift at "give online now" at the Foundation's secure Web site.

Wanted: spring WAFER food donations
Help La Crosse area companies, including Ace Hardware and Wells Fargo, to alleviate hunger by participating in WAFER's "Christmas in Spring" campaign. The campaign encourages companies hold an internal food drive this spring to assist WAFER in providing food to families in the La Crosse area.

WAFER is a non-profit organization committed to fighting hunger by giving food to those in need. WAFER relies on the generosity of companies and individuals in the Coulee Region. Donations greatly increase during the holiday season; however, other times in the year donations take a significant decline, directly affecting hungry families in the Coulee Region. For more information about WAFER, contact: Heidi Blanke, 403 Causeway Blvd., La Crosse, WI 54601.
